Match report – After two straight wins against Ascoli and Benevento, Spezia were stopped at home by Bari.
Coach Terzi’s side started strong, dictating the tempo and keeping possession for the first 20 minutes. The match then evened out, with one chance apiece, but the first half ended goalless.
In the second half, the balance held until the 83rd minute, when Spadavecchia broke the deadlock for Bari. In stoppage time, after a corner for the hosts, Bari hit on the counter and doubled their lead through Campagna, sealing the result.
Head coach Claudio Terzi after the match: “We knew we were facing a tough opponent, one that makes compactness its main strength, they had conceded just one goal in their previous four matches. We started very well, playing with real intensity in the opening 20 minutes and creating several promising situations, but despite our dominance we couldn’t find the breakthrough. Then we got a bit nervous after a couple of chances we gifted them through some mistakes, so the first half was a mix of highs and lows. In the second half, we definitely could have done better, we didn’t move the ball as quickly and weren’t as dangerous.
It’s a shame, because the match looked headed for a 0–0 draw, which would have been a fair result. Unfortunately, we conceded late, which really hurt us; we tried to come back, but their counterattack led to the second goal.
This match has to serve as a lesson, for me as well. When you face teams that defend this deep, you need to have a Plan B. Now we have the break: two weeks to keep working well and prepare for the trip to Avellino, another difficult venue. It’s disappointing not to go into the break with a positive result, but this game will help us learn".
